LEWISTON — Robert W. Barry, 85, of Bragdon Hill Road in Poland, died Tuesday, Nov. 22, at Central Maine Medical Center, with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Boston, Mass., a son of the late John and Winona (Chapman) Barry. When he was very young, his family moved to Auburn, where Robert lived for the rest of his life. He was educated in local schools before becoming a carpenter, a trade he worked at his entire life. He was a lifelong member of the carpenter’s union. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and in his later years camping.
On Oct.14, 1950, he married the love of his life, Colleen Chapman, and together they raised their young family in Auburn. They were happily married for 57 years before she passed away in 2008.
Robert is survived by his five children, Marlene Barrows and her husband, Ken, of Poland, Robert Barry and his wife, Nancy, of Greene, Daniel Barry and his wife, Amanda, of Turner, Mark Barry and his wife, Laura, of Mechanic Falls and Glen Barry of Auburn; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and his sister, Gloria Gonya of Auburn.
Besides his parents, Robert was predeceased by his wife, Colleen; and a granddaughter, Jennifer.
