We need generational change in the Senate, which is why I’m voting for Graham Platner.
I say this as someone in their 70s; old people are awesome. There are myriad reasons why older people continue to work. Working as a politician, however, is a different sort of job. I doubt any of the 70-plus year olds in the U.S. Senate are living paycheck to paycheck, worried about rent or their next meal.
Here’s the deal. We need a senator from Maine who’s invested in the future. We need someone with new ideas and a new perspective. We need someone with energy.
I first saw Graham Platner speak with Bernie Sanders in Portland. Sure, Bernie’s a draw, the auditorium was packed. But it was the excitement in the air when Graham got up to speak that caught my attention. Lots of young people around me were very engaged. I told my husband, “This is the guy.”
Having worked for Democrats Abroad for six years, I’ve wanted to see Sen. Susan Collins defeated since Donald Trump became president. She does not stand up to him.
I encourage everyone to go to a Graham Platner town hall. He holds several a week and has made it a point to meet in every Maine county.
