WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Maine Gladiators Bantam travel hockey team swept its first three games to reach the finals of the Icebreaker Tournament.

West Hartford, Conn., topped Maine, 5-3, in a well-played final.

The Twin Cities team blanled Brick, N.J., 6-0, in the opening round. Austin Roy and Kyle Lussier scored two goals apiece to lead the way. Jozef Frechette and Griffin Wade rounded out the scoring. Reid Pomerleau and Nate Granholm each had a pair of assists. Kyle Morin, Ryley Austin, Matt Brooks and Kiana Melvin all set up goals. Ridge Servidio and Kyle Welsh split the shutout in goal.

Three first-period goals sparked the Gladiators to a 4-1 win over West Hartford. Pomerleau, Lussier and Granholm scored the goals with assists to Morin, Granholm and Lussier. Each team notched on goal in the third period after a scoreless middle stanza. Welsh was strong in net for the Gladiators.

Four unanswered goals in the third period broke it open for a 5-1 win over the Delco team from Pennsylvania. Brooks scored the lone early goal for the Gladiators. Morin, Pomerleau, Wade and Brooks each scored to help put it away, set up by Morin, Austin, Frechette and Roy. Servidio picked up the win between the pipes.

West Hartford earned its revenge in the title game. Each team scored twice in a wild first period. Wade and Morin picked up the Gladator goals, but Connecticut quickly erased the deficit each time.

Connecticut went up 4-2 in the second. Brooks scored to cut the deficit to one, but West Hartford got another goal to polish it off. Welsh and Servidio shared the netminding.
