A former University of Maine football player and assistant coach has been arrested and accused of sexual assault, police say.

Roosevelt Boone, 37, was taken into custody Tuesday on a warrant for a Class A charge of gross sexual assault, Brunswick police Chief Scott Stewart said in a news release Wednesday afternoon.

Boone was arrested at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, Stewart said. According to his LinkedIn profile, Boone works as the enrollment manager for the academy, a well-known Florida preparatory boarding school for leading student-athletes. The school did not immediately respond to a voicemail or email Wednesday evening.

Boone was a running back for UMaine’s football team from 2007 to 2011, according to the university’s athletics website. He was later hired as the team’s running backs coach before shifting to a recruiting role in 2016.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Boone had worked as a dean at Bowdoin College in Brunswick from 2022 to 2024. A November 2022 article from the Bowdoin Orient describes him working with the incoming freshman class.

Stewart said Boone’s arrest came after an “extensive investigation” into a 2024 incident, which did not occur on Bowdoin’s campus.

A spokesperson for the college declined to comment on Boone’s arrest.

Boone also worked as an associate dean at Colby College in Waterville from 2021 to 2022, his LinkedIn indicates.

He is also the co-founder of Strong Mind-Strong Body Inc., a Washington, D.C.-based wellness nonprofit serving underprivileged youths, according to its website. A voicemail left with the organization Wednesday evening was not immediately returned.

He is being held at the Manatee County Jail until he can be extradited to Maine. The U.S. Marshals Service and the Maine Violent Offender Task Force assisted Brunswick police in Tuesday’s arrest, Stewart said.

Class A crimes — the highest level of crime in Maine — are punishable by up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.
