I have appreciated Susan Collins often. However, if she truly represents Maine voters, she’d only have to follow recent Maine referendum results, when — just last year — the broadly popular proposal to show an ID to vote got loaded up with far-right wish list items. It was defeated almost 2-1.
Rather than supporting Trump’s SAVE America Act, Sen. Collins should demand that her Senate colleagues come up with their own bipartisan bill, including only reasonable terms, rather than the far-right partisan House version. Otherwise, it will be clear to voters that Collins does not respect the will of the people and is a reliable vote for whatever President Trump wants.
