Laurie Hunter Henderson

LEWISTON – Laurie Hunter Henderson passed on April 3, 2026, at the age of 64. She was born on March 20, 1962, in Framingham, Massachusetts, to the late Perry Hunter and Phyllis Ernestine (Shunk) Henderson. Laurie was residing in Lewiston at the time of her passing.

She graduated from Framingham High School in 1980 then later received her associate degree in business administration from New England College of Business and Finance. She began her career in 1987 at Babson College. In 1992, Laurie moved to Maine and dedicated the rest of her career to Bates College in Lewiston. Laurie soon became an icon on campus with her beautiful smile and contagious laugh. Her skill and dedication to the post and print department earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and staff who she considered family.

In her free time, Laurie enjoyed car rides in her convertible VW Bug, scouting discounts at Goodwill and spending time with her friends and animals. Her thirst for growth was nourished through her reading of books, collecting meaningful quotes and every day conversations with friends. She always sought the knowledge of human nature and relationships in order to better understand herself and those around her. She moved through each day, intentionally, with the purpose of leaving positive connections and always reaching for the better thoughts.

Over the past 30 years, Laurie dedicated her time and love to several community foundations, Kiwanis, Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, Great Fall Balloon Festival and Androscoggin United Way. Her greatest achievement in volunteering for the community was not only the ability to serve the public but the friendships she built along the way. She lived in a small neighborhood in Lewiston where she built relationships and cherished her neighbors.

In addition to her parents, Laurie was predeceased by her sister, Lee Marcia Henderson, and her grand-niece, Khloe Elizabeth Retelle, and many beloved pets.

She is survived by her niece, Lindsey Hanson and her husband, Eric, and their two children, Emily and Connor, her nephew Brian Retelle and his wife, Ayla, and their two children, Hunter and Henry, her nephew Riki Retelle and his wife, Alison, and their four children, Raymond, Roland, Reese and Ronald, her brother-in-law, Peter Retelle, her cousin, Eddie Henderson and his wife, Jill, her cousin Kim Henderson Gehrke and her husband, Alan, her beloved second cousins on her mother’s side, and her dear friends, who truly were her extended family, Kathie McCann, Tara Chiasson and Julie Drake. She also leaves behind her friends and colleagues at Bates College who were an integral part of her daily life. She will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, from 5-7 p.m., at The Fortin & Pinette Group, 305 Alfred A. Plourde Parkway, Lewiston. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
