Traffic around the corner of Park and High streets in south Paris will be impacted Thursday while new water main lines are installed where several sections had to be repaired last month after bursting.

Service to Paris Utility District customers between 32 and 77 High St. will be temporarily shut off while work is being done.

The section of road between Porter and Park streets will be closed to through traffic. Residents in the area will be able to access their homes. Part of Park Street will be limited to one lane.

Once the work is completed and service restored, any customers whose water was shut off will be on a boil-water order until test results show it is safe for drinking.

“Water service should be restored before the end of Thursday,” General Manager Tanya Dunn said Wednesday morning. “We hope to deliver samples to the lab before it closes at 4 p.m. Results should be reported back to us within about 18 hours.”

Crews will lay the water line at least 4 feet below ground. The pipes that burst were at least 50 years old and buried only about 30 inches deep.
