An Androscoggin County grand jury indicted a Lewiston woman Tuesday on charges related to firing multiple gunshots in Lewiston’s downtown residential area on Feb. 26, striking a parked vehicle.

Leyla Isaak, 23, was indicted on charges of reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, namely a firearm, and criminal mischief. A conviction carries a maximum sentence of five years on the gun charge and a maximum 364 days on the criminal mischief charge.

The Lewiston Police Department responded after gunshots were reported early in the evening on Pine Street near Howard Street. Following an investigation, Isaak was arrested.

The indictment states that Isaak created a substantial risk of serious bodily injury. She also recklessly damaged or destroyed a parked vehicle belonging to another person, the indictment stated.

Police located several witnesses Feb. 26 who described an altercation that occurred just prior to the shots being fired, police previously said.

“Witnesses reported that a woman involved in the dispute fired multiple rounds at a group she had just argued with in the street,” according to police. “Officers recovered several shell casings in the area consistent with where witnesses said the incident occurred.”

No one was injured during the incident.
