I write to heap praise on Lewiston High School’s MAT Gala on the afternoon of Friday, March 27. MAT stands for Music, Art, Theater. LHS delivered on all three.
Live performances included outstanding piano, violin, cello, choir, and what may be the most uproariously hilarious performance ever of the Rapunzel fairy tale. Hallways and classrooms displayed photography, drawing, painting, film, digital media and more. Students sold zines for charity, provided snacks, painted faces, and hosted a table where anyone could sit down to try their hand at drawing. Rounding out the event was a rousing open mic event.
Teachers and students planned and executed this excellent gathering. Students, staff, families and friends came together to view the variety of work, enjoy amazing music, and laugh – a lot! – together. This was a true celebration of the arts as they are practiced at LHS.
Thank you to all involved.
