Lawrence James Sheehan
WINTHROP – Lawrence James Sheehan, 91, of Winthrop, passed away peacefully in Portland on April 5, 2026 after a brief illness.
“Larry” was born on Feb. 6, 1935 in the Bronx, the elder child of James L. Sheehan and Frieda M. Sheehan and was raised in Tenafly, N.J. He graduated from Bucknell University, where he attained a business degree in banking. He later graduated from the National Graduate Trust School at Northwestern University. He spent his professional career at Citizen’s First National Bank of New Jersey, retiring in 1994 as Senior Vice President of Trusts and Estate Planning.
He was an avid tennis player, golfer and enjoyed watching football, golf and his beloved Yankees. His family and friends are lucky to have many happy memories of their time together boating and fishing on Wilson Pond in Maine and enjoying the warmth of Lighthouse Point, Fla., where he lived for many winters with his beloved wife of 58 years, Beverly Jane Sheehan.
He is survived by his sons James P. Sheehan and his wife Alexandra of Palm Coast, Fla., Matthew C. Sheehan and his wife Kerry St. John of Red Bank, N.J., daughter-in-law Kathryn O. Sheehan of Scarborough; granddaughter, Kelsey Sheehan and her husband Michael Simonov, grandsons Justin M. Sheehan, Matthew Sheehan, Christopher Sheehan; three great-granddaughters; and sister, Carolyn Smith of Norway.
He was predeceased by his wife, Beverly Jane Sheehan; and his eldest son, Michael L. Sheehan.
It was important to him that he was fair to everyone. Larry’s calm, wise presence and witty sense of humor will be sorely missed.
A service will be held in the coming months in Montgomery, Pa.
