Antonio “Tony” DeSalle
RUMFORD – Antonio “Tony” DeSalle, 88, of Rumford, passed away unexpectedly at his home on April 7, 2026. He was born in Rumford, the son of Antonio DeSalle and Dora (Cocca) DeSalle. He graduated from Stephens High School, Class of 1955, and proudly served in the U.S. Army.
Tony worked for several years at Oxford Paper Company before serving the Town of Rumford as a firefighter. He later joined the Rumford Police Department, retiring as sergeant after 25 years of service. Following retirement, he enjoyed driving a bus for Western Maine Transportation for many years.
Tony remained active and volunteered in his community. Proud of his Italian heritage, he was an active member of the Sons of Italy Lodge until it closed. He also served on the RSU #10 School Board and as a Courtesy Boat Inspector, helping to educate boaters and protect the water quality.
His greatest joy was time spent at camp with his family at Roxbury Pond. During the rest of the year, he could be found on the sidelines or in the bleachers, cheering on Mountain Valley High School athletics – especially his favorite Falcon, Ben. Tony also enjoyed gardening and hunting for deals at yard sales.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Trudy; his daughter, Donna (Scott), his son, Gregory (Tammy); and his beloved grandson, Benjamin. Tony is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Angela and Reggie Arsenault, his sister, Cecilia Arsenault; and many special nieces and nephews.
Tony was predeceased by his parents; his brothers John, Marco, Joe, and Frank, and his sister, Rose.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., on Friday, April 17, at the Parish of the Holy Savior (St. Athanasius St. John Church), 126 Main Ave., Rumford. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
Arrangements are in the care of Thibault Remembrance Center Affiliate of The Fortin Group Funeral Homes, 250 Penobscot St., Rumford.
