Janet Mills should be Maine’s next senator. Her age and experience are a plus. Research and development, whether in health care or renewable energy, is on life support. Our environment is under attack. Our foreign policy, or lack thereof, is appalling.
While I’m sure Graham Platner is well intentioned, and I thank him for his military service, his lack of experience and judgment as an adult, and his multitude of crass comments, lead me to believe he would be ineffective.
Mills will hit the ground running. She has the knowledge and education to be effective. She will get the job done before she passes the baton to someone that has legislative and public service experience and who has a history of good judgment.
Platner may have changed. That doesn’t equate to meaningful results. Knowing Sen. Susan Collins is unpopular but has a track record, whether we like that record or not, the GOP is throwing money into this race.
Any “wins” to curb the detrimental actions and policies of the Trump administration will be won in the courts. In Mills, we have a lawyer and past state attorney general who knows how to use the law to stop the worst actions of the Trump administration.
I once watched the presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin speak about the importance of fighting for our rights, referencing the lessons learned from the 1960s. We have a proven fighter. Now let’s use her in Washington.
