PORTLAND — Diane M. Bernatchez, 94, of 100 Wildwood Circle, Westbrook died peacefully with her daughter and friends at her side on Monday, Nov. 28, at The Cedars.

She was born in Lewiston, April 22, 1917, the daughter of Adelard and Eva (Duschesneau) Thibault. Diane grew up on Webber Avenue, and lived on that same street for more than 80 years. She was educated at Holy Cross School.

She was married to Fernand Bernatchez for more than 60 years, and they raised their daughter, Claire, with total devotion. Her husband predeceased her on April 4, 2001. She was a cook at Holy Cross School for more than 30 years, retiring at the age of 80. She was a communicant of Holy Cross of Lewiston and St. Anthony’s of Westbrook.

A loving and devoted wife, mother and Memere, she dedicated herself to her family; her charismatic smile will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

She leaves her daughter, Claire M. Owens; granddaughter, Marie Claire; sister, Lorraine Caron; sisters-in-law, Marguerite Thibault and Beatrice Thibault; son-in-law, Larry Owens; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by four sisters, Diana Mutty, Simone St. Hilaire, Muriel Violette and Rita Poisson; and brothers Lionel, Rosaire, Roger and Ray Thibault.
