Druscilla “Dru” Breton

LEWISTON – Druscilla “Dru” Breton, beloved wife of Dennis and dear mother of Michael, died Monday April 20, 2026, at Central Maine Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Born in Rumford on Oct. 30, 1934, she was the youngest of seven children born to Joseph and Lilla (Durant) Bulger. Dru was a Class of 1952 graduate of Stephens High School where she was an honor student and a member of the National Honor Society. Following graduation, she trained for two years as an operating room technician at Rumford Community Hospital. She also worked in the operating room at Leominster Hospital in Massachusetts and later completed a 25-year career at Rumford Community Hospital. She was held in highest esteem by physicians, coworkers and, especially her patients.

Dru was married to Dennis Breton on July 27, 1955, at St Athanasius Church in Rumford.

She is survived by her grieving husband, Dennis; and son, Michael and wife Tammy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Dru was predeceased by brothers Patrick, John, Bernard and Jasper and by her sisters Emma Brennan and Mary Van Nest.

Dru was a devoted and long-time member of the Daughters of Isabella having been brought into the group in 1958 by her mother. During her years in the group, she held all appointive and elective offices. She was regent on three different occasions providing strong leadership for 12 years.

She was also a long-time member of the Rumford Historical Society where she served for many years as archivist. Dru and Dennis were honored by the town of Rumford in 2019 with the prestigious Spirit of America Award for their many years of devotion to research and preservation of Rumford’s history. She was also a proud member of the Mayflower Society.

Dru loved to travel, especially to her beloved Prince Edward Island, but also to her ancestral Ireland, to Germany and her numerous hiking trips to Switzerland. She also enjoyed her many visits with her siblings in California.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday May 2, at the Parish of The Holy Savior St Athanasius St John Church, 126 Maine Ave., Rumford. Interment will be in St John Cemetery.
