Many of us in Midcoast Maine are angry and dismayed with the orange man who would be king. This latest set of events, attacking Iran, has led us down a path we had not encountered previously. We are in a dangerous war, on the offense, where there is no plan and no certainty on the objectives.

On May 1, historically a day to honor workers, there will be a rally from 5 to 6 p.m., on the mall in Brunswick, underscoring three clear objectives that day: no work, no school, no shopping (or, only locally with cash).

We are tired of Trump’s commitment to billionaire friends. We want to honor local businesses, little workers and small families who are being hit where it hurts: in the pocketbook.

Boycotting big business is an effective way to get the attention of those in power. This tactic has delivered results in the United States. Both during the civil rights demonstrations, and much more recently in Minneapolis, activists have engaged people’s power to demonstrate that we mean business.

Some people have been discouraged by the apparent disregard by Trump of previous rallies. But as these rallies get bigger and bigger, and as we add economic teeth to them, we are demonstrating that we are not giving up the fight. Let’s show up and support our neighbors.
