Eliot Cutler is a convicted sex offender whose addiction to child pornography perpetuates the brutal exploitation of children for sexual gratification. He has been accused of probation violations five times. Cutler remains in custody without bail, scheduled to appear in court next month to address the allegations.
At one time, Mr. Cutler was a prominent attorney and competitive political candidate. One has to ask — if he was poor, if he was not white and was not a member of the establishment — would he be afforded the same kid glove treatment by the judicial system?
Mr. Cutler has thumbed his nose at justice. He deserves to serve his full sentence.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
