Lynda R. McKay
OTISFIELD – Our hearts are broken, as we announce the passing of Lynda R. McKay, 59, of Otisfield, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Norway, Maine, to Donald and Ruth (Kimball) Frechette on Feb. 26, 1967. She grew up in Oxford, then Waterford, and enjoyed an adventurous childhood with her family playing in Crooked River, snowmobiling, ice skating, sledding, fishing, hunting and running around outdoors. She attended local schools and graduated OHHS in the class of 1985.
After school, Lynda worked several jobs that gave her much enjoyment. She worked at the Advertiser Democrat, alongside her grandmother, Frances, her mother, Ruth, and sister Holle. Later she waitressed at Belair’s, and the Bullring restaurant. Always a people person, her customers truly enjoyed her warm personality and beautiful smile. She worked for a time at the Oxford Casino, and for 25 years at Camp Fernwood in Poland. Most recently she worked at Ocean State Job Lots where she enjoyed helping customers and made some very dear friends with her coworkers.
Lynda was a woman of many talents, she was an accomplished seamstress, and made handmade bags that she sold, and for many years she made Christmas wreaths and kissing balls that she sold in her roadside booth. She made delectable jams, pickles, and many other home canned goods. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers, her many pets over the years, even her pet chickens that she loved. Lynda was also known for her amazing cooking. She prided herself on making everything from scratch, and her incredible whoopie pies are the stuff of legend, with them being frequently requested by her brother Dale over the years.
Lynda enjoyed spending time with her family, berry picking, motorcycle rides with her husband David, traveling to Florida to see family, soaking up the sun’s rays, going to the beach, and their yearly trips to Monhegan Island. She loved playing Bunco with the “girls” and their yearly shopping trips to North Conway. She enjoyed going to their little camp on Moose Pond and relaxing in the peace and quiet.
Lynda may well be most remembered for her incredible and beautiful smile. Her smile absolutely lit up any room. She was an upbeat and open person who made friends easily. She always had a great sense of humor and enjoyed a good laugh. She was a very proud 20-year member of The Eastern Star, where she enjoyed the comradery of some wonderful women over the years.
Lynda was predeceased by her father; and her grandmother Frances Kimball; and brother-in-law Fernand Corriveau. She is survived and missed dearly by her husband David; mother Ruth; her children, Stevie (Kolby) Youland, son Caleb Field; grandchildren, Jordan and Clayton; bonus sons, Ryan and Chad McKay; sister Holle Corriveau; brothers, Dale (Beth) Frechette, Don Jr., and Dan Frechette; many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins.
