In our rich gubernatorial field, Shenna Bellows is my No. 1. Here’s why.
When key groups endorse two and even three of the Democratic candidates in the primary for governor we have to ask, “who’s unique?”
Bellows is the only candidate with executive director, Maine Civil Liberties Union, on her resume. The Maine Holocaust and Human Rights Center also flourished under her leadership. Defending our rights is right in Bellows’ wheelhouse. Bellows, more than any other candidate, has the knowledge, experience and hands-on practice needed to keep MAGA’s jackboots from trampling our constitutional rights.
My dad was arrested in 1949 for speaking out against segregation. The Supreme Court of the United States upheld his conviction. He went to jail. Not law school. I know what happens when racist right-wing ideology trumps our constitutionally protected freedoms.
Shenna Bellows is well practiced at defending Maine from Washington, D.C. authoritarians. That’s why she is my No. 1.
