Roger Pomerleau, 71, of Lewiston, was taken to Central Maine Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, Lewiston police Lt. Mark Cornelio said.

Pomerleau was heading outbound on Pleasant Street at about 8 a.m. in the left lane at the intersection with the parkway, Cornelio said. Pomerleau drove through a red light to make a right turn onto Plourde, Cornelio said. At the same time, a tractor-trailer was crossing Pleasant Street heading toward the turnpike. The truck hit the driver’s side of Pomerleau’s 1996 Chevrolet Lumina as it was making the turn.

Emergency responders had to extricate Pomerleau from the vehicle, police said. He remained in the hospital Tuesday evening, police said.

The truck was driven by Pierre Boudreau, of Quebec, Canada.

The entrance to Pleasant Street from Plourde was blocked by police for several hours as they completed an accident reconstruction. The road reopened around 2 p.m., Cornelio said.
