BRUNSWICK — Dorothy F. Lemay, 91, passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, at Parkview Adventist Hospital, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born May 23, 1920, in Harpswell, a daughter of William S. and Margaret Anna (Fitzgerald) Barnes. At a young age, she moved with her family to Massachusetts, and lived in the Boston area for several years. She returned to Harpswell and graduated from Brunswick High School in 1938, and went on to business school.
In November 1940, she married Joseph E. Lemay of Harpswell, who predeceased her in 2003.
In 1952, Dorothy went to work at Brunswick Naval Air Station, where she worked in the payroll department for several years advancing to payroll supervisor. She then advanced to housing claims and then became assistant comptroller from which she retired in 1991, after 39 years of service.
Her hobbies consisted of going to auctions, tending to her flower gardens and pastry baking. She will be fondly remembered by her family as a fabulous cook.
She was predeceased by her husband; and two grandchildren, William Lemay in 2010 and Stephanie Stockford in 1981.
She is survived by her son, Joseph E. Lemay Jr. of Bangor and St. Cloud, Fla.; a daughter, Kathleen M. and her husband, Clifford D. Stockford, of Brunswick; two sisters, Gertrude Knight and Virginia Wright of Harpswell; two grandchildren, Joseph E. Lemay III and his wife, Stephanie, of Bucksport and Jason A. Stockford of Riverside, R.I.; and one great-grandson, Parker Lemay.
