For a kid who reported to football camp as a college freshman with a broken finger and without a natural position, Ethan Sutton of South Paris had himself a sensational Division III career.

The Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School product recently wrapped up his run at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., by leading the team in receiving and scoring for the second year in a row.

Sutton won his second straight MVP award in the annual Hoffman Cup game against rival Merchant Marine. It was one of Sutton’s two three-touchdown games this season.

Despite drawing frequent double coverage as St. Lawrence’s top pass-catching threat, Sutton was named first-team all-conference after picking up second-team honors as a junior.

He also handled the team’s punting duties.

Sutton’s final career catch was a touchdown. He was injured in the fourth quarter of that game against Rochester and was unable to play in season finale against WPI.

On target to graduate with a degree in economics this spring, Sutton concluded his four years with more than 1,500 all-purpose yards and 16 touchdowns.

He has been an assistant coach for the men while working in the UMPI admissions department since 2008.

“Hopefully, after a five minute conversation with me about UMPI, a prospective student athlete will see how much I bleed blue and gold,” Parent said in a news release.

LEOPARDS CHANGE SPOTS

Edward Little graduates Corey Therriault and Eric Prue played a leading role in getting Wentworth off to a four-game, season-opening winning streak in men’s basketball.

Therriault scored 15 points and hauled down five rebounds, while put up 11 points, eight rebounds and three assists in Wentworth’s 64-55 victory over Newbury.

Junior swingman Therriault leads the Leopards (5-3) with 12.1 and 5.6 rebounds per game. Senior guard Prue checks in with eight points, three assists and two steals per contest and is shooting 43 percent from 3-point territory.
