BREWER — Luke Cote hit a key free throw and scored 14 points as Lewiston shook off Brewer, 45-43, in a boys’ basketball game Friday night.
The Blue Devils took command in the final moments of the game when Corbin Hyde scored two of his four points on a layup and Cote made one of two baskets from the free-throw-line. Teammate Shawn Ricker scored 10 points.
The Witches (5-9) held a 22-16 lead halftime before the Blue Devils (11-3) rebounded and dropped in 17 points in the third quarter.
For Brewer, Brenden Newcomb scored the game-high 17 points.
Girls’ basketball
Brewer 49, Lewiston 28
BREWER — Brewer’s defensive pressure finally began paying dividends late in the third quarter, allowing the Witches to pull away and escape with a 49-28 decision over the Blue Devils in a KVAC girls’ basketball contest Friday.
Clinging to a 16-12 advantage by halftime. Brewer (7-7) saw its advantage cut to a tenuous 3 points midway through the third quarter before Lewiston struggled to maintain possession against Brewer’s onslaught.
Lindsay Houp scored a game-high 17 points for Brewer. Brie Wilson led Lewiston with eight points. No Lewiston player scored more than two field goals.
Buckfield 49, Hebron 15
BUCKFIELD — Buckfield held Hebron Academy to single-digit scoring all four quarters as the Bucks glided to a 49-15 victory in a girls’ basketball game Friday.
Kaitlyn Rines and Abby Bragg each scored eight points for the Bucks (4-11), who built a 22-4 lead by halftime.
For Hebron, Nanbing Bao scored five points.
Edward Little 44, Brunswick 39
BRUNSWICK — Junior guard Ashlee Arnold tossed a game-high 17 points to lead Edward Little to a 44-39 victory over Brunswick in KVAC girls’ basketball action Friday.
The Red Eddies (11-3) were locked up in a 19-19 tie at the midpoint.
Kate Sawyer, who had 10 points, connected for a 3-pointer with two minutes remaining in the game. That was the first lead for Edward Little in the second half.
Freshman guard Julia Champagne scored 12 points, while Nel Bryant added 11 for the Dragons (5-9).
