LEWISTON — A 26-year-old Lewiston woman was arrested early Saturday following a 4½-hour standoff that ended with a child opening the door to police.
Police were about to force open the apartment door at 16 Prescott St., Lt. Marc Robitaille said. They had a ram and other tools ready, and a signed search warrant had arrived.
But when police knocked once again, a child let them in.
“It ended very quietly, Robitaille said.
Police arrested Saynab Said and charged her with aggravated assault.
The incident began when a neighbor called police.
Apparently, Said and a male friend were arguing. Police believe Said stabbed the man, who was already on his way to nearby Central Maine Medical Center when the call came in at about 3:30 a.m. The man suffered a stab wound to the arm which was believed to be nonlife-threatening.
Police went to the Prescott Street address, but Said refused to answer the door.
Police understood that children were inside, but they believed they were in no danger, Robitaille said.
So, they waited for the search warrant, which arrived at about 8 a.m.
When they finally entered the apartment, police found evidence of the stabbing, Robitaille said.
