SOUTH PARIS — Leroy W. Linnell, 86, of South Paris, died Feb. 18, after spending two months at the Maine Veterans’ Home.

He was born in Otisfield, Aug. 31, 1925, the son of George and Mary Leggat Linnell. He attended schools in Otisfield, Oxford and Portland High School. Being drafted in his senior year, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps, returning to Portland High School to graduate. He was in Saipan, Japan and involved in the Korean Conflict. He received the Purple Heart for shrapnel in the chest.

He worked at Raytheon in Boston for several years, then on to Hewlett Packard in Waltham, Mass., for approximately 30 years, before retiring back to Maine.

He is survived by his wife, Eva Linnell of South Paris; daughters, Barbara Verrill of Paris Hill and Patricia Brackett of Lewiston; granddaughters, Angela Bourgoin, Teresa Kozak and Sheila Verrill; great-grandchildren, Kayla Bourgoin, Kenny Kozak III and Wyatt Portras; and a brother, Orrell Linnell, who will be 102 on March 16.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Johnson and Rita Woodworth.
