LEWISTON — The Central Maine Medical Center College of Nursing and Health Professions will offer 11 general education courses during its summer session.
Microbiology (BIO 213): The four-credit class, from May 15 to June 29, includes lecture and laboratory work. Prerequisite courses are Anatomy and Physiology I and II. Classes will be held from 9 to 11:50 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and labs from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. A second lab session will be offered, if class size requires. The instructor will be Kim Emery.
College Writing (ENG 101): The three-credit online course, which focuses on clear,effective writing, commences on May 7 and ends on June 29. High-speed internet access is required. The instructor is Araminta Matthews.
Professional Writing (ENG 140): The three-credit online course addresses business-professional communications. It begins May 7 and concludes June 29. High speed internet access is required. Araminta Matthews will serve as instructor.
College Algebra (MAT 140): The course reviews standard college-level algebra topics and their application to real problems. Three credits. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m. May 8 to June 28. The instructor is Adam Pride.
Medical Terminology (MET 111): The three-credit online course, led by Dana Law Ham, assists students in the development of a medical terminology vocabulary that will facilitate communication of medical information in a medical office or hospital environment. Begins May 7 and concludes Aug. 17. High-speed internet access is required.
Pharmacology (PHM 201): The three-credit online course focuses on the principles of pharmacology and the major drug classifications. High-speed internet access required. May 7 to Aug. 17. Prerequisite courses are Anatomy and Physiology I and II. Course instructor is Michael Boucher.
Phlebotomy (PHL 100): A two-credit course that provides students with the knowledge and clinical skills to become a phlebotomist. Begins May 8 and wraps up on July 10. Tuesdays from 5 to 8 p.m. Beverly Leavitt will serve as instructor.
History of the Heath Care Environment (HIS 210): The three-credit course will provide an introduction to the U.S. health care system, its history, its problems and possible solutions. Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. May 7 to June 28. Dale Morrell is instructor.
Bridge to College Transition (SEM 020): A one-credit course set for 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 17 and Aug. 18. The program, which helps students transition to the requirements of college level coursework, is open to everyone and is mandatory for some students enrolling in the nursing, radiology and nuclear medicine programs at the school. Araminta Matthews is instructor.
Developmental Writing (ENG 010): A three-credit course that helps students achieve basic competencies in reading comprehension and writing and addresses basic software skills necessary to complete online learning goals, access online research platforms and write documents. Accuplacer Reading Comprehension Score of 40 to 60 required to participate. May 8 to June 28 from noon to 3 p.m. Araminta Matthews is instructor.
Math Review (MAT 011): The three-credit course focuses on the fundamentals of numerical mathematics, including a review of unit conversions, basic algebraic techniques, and an introduction to probabilities. Accuplacer Algebra Score of 50 to 60 required to participate. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m. July 3 to Aug. 23. Instructor is Adam Pride.
