I would like to express my opinion about the governor of New Jersey, who ordered flags to fly at half-staff for Whitney Houston.
Flying the U.S. flag at half-staff is for veterans’ services, not for a private citizen such as she was. She was not a veteran of the Armed Services, only a veteran of her own doings.
She did have a beautiful voice and made her family proud, but she did not deserve the flag flying at half-staff.
The governor of New Jersey made a real error.

Editor’s note: In addition to honoring veterans, the Flag Code permits governors to lower the flag to observe the death of a political leader or government official.
