EUSTIS — Two residents are seeking election for one, three-year term as a selectman, assessor and overseer of the poor on Friday.
Incumbent Selectman Jane Wilkinson is being challenged by Donald Plante for the seat.
Townspeople will have a chance to elect school and municipal officials from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 2, at the Town Office. The annual town meeting will be held the following day at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at the Community Building.
Other positions to be elected are uncontested. Susan Fotter is running for a three-year term on the SAD 58 Board of Directors and Melody Chase, Daphne Harp and Lori Lemont are seeking three, three-year terms on the Planning Board.
No one signed up to run for two, one-year terms on the Planning Board, Town Clerk Kathy Fearon said.
On Saturday morning, voters will take up 23 articles pertaining to town government.
The proposed budget for 2012 is $931,571.31, Assessor Sandra Scribner said.
It is $48,413.88 more than the 2011 budget.
In the $150,540.40 Health and Sanitation budget there is an increase of $15,000 in the Transfer Station line to $140,000.
Fearon said there are some repairs being proposed at the station.
One item that may draw some discussion, she said, is Article 24 to see if the town will vote to appropriate from surplus $12,000 to buy an electronic signboard for the Community Building, Fearon said.
The sign that is wanted is one that could be changed from inside the building rather than outside, Fearon said.
Some people want to buy one that requires the letters to be placed on manually, she said, but during winter time it is difficult to change the wording because of snow.
The sign will also be tall and difficult to reach for some to change the messages outside, she said.
Hydrants and insurance also show an increase under the Protection Budget. The town has just undergone an upgrade on the water system and the rates have increased. That is why hydrants show an increase from $31,000 in 2011 to $42,810 in this year’s budget, Fearon said.
Insurance also reflects an increase from $38,000 to $53,000. It is an estimate of what it will cost, she said.
