WINTHROP — Muriel G. Mathieu, 87, of 24 Homefield St., Lewiston, died Monday, Feb. 27, at the Winthrop Manor, following a brief illness.

She was born in Lewiston, Dec. 2, 1924, the daughter of Philippe and Germaine Ferland Turgeon Sr. Educated in local schools, she married Andre J. “Babe” Mathieu on Jan. 16, 1943. Mr. Mathieu passed away on Nov. 17, 1982.

She was employed for many years as the receptionist at Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute, now known as Central Maine Community College in Auburn, retiring at age 68.

A member of Holy Family Church, Prince of Peace Parish, she is survived by a son, Michael and wife, Bridget, of Lewiston; a daughter, Cynthia and husband, Chester Barnes Sr., of Vassalboro; a brother, Philippe Turgeon Jr. of Lewiston; two sisters, Claudette and husband, Jerry Giacomino, of Melbourne Beach, Fla., and Jeannine and husband, Donald Thibault, of Boca Raton, Fla.; six grandchildren, Joseph Allen III and wife, Emily, Elizabeth and husband, Jamie Steward, Benjamin Chick-Reny, Reneigh Chick, Chad Hopkins and Chester Barnes Jr.; and many very special nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Edward; and a sister, Pauline Guimond.
