LEWISTON — The Auburn/Lewiston YMCA hosted the opening event of the 2012 Corporate Challenge Series on Sunday, Feb. 26. The challenge is an opportunity for some friendly competition between local businesses in a fun atmosphere. Net proceeds from the Challenge benefit youth programming for the non-profit YMCA of Auburn/Lewiston. The first event of the series welcomed seven teams, representing Walmart Distribution Center, Procter & Gamble and the YMCA, with bowling as the test of skill. All the competitors put their best foot forward, but in the end Walmart DC- Black breezed to top honors with a team series total of 2,324 pins, outdistancing P&G-Yellow by a whopping 615 pins. Walmart DC-Black also took team high-game honors with a one game team total of 849.
Jason Ward of Walmart- Black took individual high series honors with 604 total pins for an average game of 201.3. Ward edged teammate Levi Poland, who turned in a 600 series. Joe Stempky (P&G-m Yellow) 476, Mike Obie (Walmart- Blue) 449, Bill Bray (P&G-Red) 420, John Strickland (P&G-m Green) 380, Jerry Melville (YMCA-m Steel) 370 and Nicole Oberlander (YMCA-m Purple) 326 were the high rollers for their respective teams.
