LIVERMORE FALLS — The Jay-Livermore Falls Seniors resumed weekly meeting on March 12 with Vice Chairman James Williams presiding.
Following the opening ceremony, Williams reported Janet Wright is home recuperating. Ernie Bickford is at Sandy River. Chairwoman Shirley Couture, who served in that capacity for almost 12 years, has died as has Al Knowlton.
George Doiron sang “God Bless America” and later in the meeting sang “When Irish Eyes are Smiling” and “My Wild Irish Rose” to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. A thank-you was received from the family of Marie Gagnon for the donation in her memory, as well as a thank-you letter from the Androscoggin Hospice House.
Birthday greetings were sung for Gloria Bickford and Eugene Pomerleau, who celebrated birthdays in February.
Election of officers was held and the new chairperson is Fernande Doiron, who thanked the group for the vote of confidence.
The group was asked if they wanted to have the Easter meal on Monday, April 2. It was agreed to hold it then. Nancy Couture will bring Easter cupcakes, but the remainder of the menu was tabled until Monday, March 19.
Doiron announced that Franco Day will be held Wednesday, March 21, in Augusta, and if anyone is interested in attending, the ceremony will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the State House. If anyone would like to sit in the gallery to see representatives at work, the gallery opens at 8:30. Special French food will be served in the cafeteria.
The group will hold a Chinese auction Monday, so members are asked to bring food or something else to donate.
The 50/50 was won by Patricia Couture.
Following the meeting, refreshments, brought by Pat Laverdiere, Gail Laverdiere, Rita Fuller and Carmen Moreau, were served. Cards and games were played for the remainder of the day.
