SOUTH PARIS — Roger N. St.Hilaire, 81, passed away Sunday, March 11, at the Maine Veterans’ Home after being in declining health for the last two years.
Roger was born in Auburn, Dec. 25, 1930, the youngest of 12 children of the late Charles and Adele St.Hilaire. A lifelong resident of the area, he graduated from Edward Little High School, where he was a multi-sport athlete. Upon graduation, he immediately went to work for a brief time for his father’s roofing and siding business. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country during the Korean War.
Following his service, Roger worked for several area companies including Country Kitchen, Bath Iron Works and Arthur Murray Studios, where for many years he lived his dream as a ballroom dancing instructor. He then culminated his work life by operating a licensed in-home day care center for more than 10 years in partnership with his wife, Madeleine.
He was a longtime member of the American Legion and several area clubs; played in fast pitch softball and pool leagues for many years; was an avid cribbage and card player; had a passion for harness horse racing and loved coaching his sons Little League and Colt League baseball games.
He is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law, John and wife, Lori, of Monmouth, Dan and wife, Darcy, of Adams Center, N.Y., and Mike and wife, Lori, of Buckfield; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Roger Cloutier and wife, Fran, of Lewiston and Donol Clark of Lewiston; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Roger was predeceased by his beloved wife of 48 years, Madeleine, in 2002; his parents; and his 11 brothers and sisters.
