BETHEL — “Eating for Healthy Aging” is the topic of a program to be presented by Pat Watson, Registered Dietitian, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at the Bethel Congregational Church, 32 Church St.
To Your Health of Western Mountains Senior College offers the program to respond to requests for nutritional needs of aging.
Watson said, “Healthy eating and being fit are important to your health no matter how old you are.” She added that she is excited to have been asked to speak on nutrition and healthy aging and encourages interested persons to join her for a discussion geared to the special nutrient needs of older adults.
Her topic will include planning nutritious meals for one or two people, maintaining a healthy weight during aging and getting more fiber into the diet. She will also cover the important foods and nutrients for the body and how much to eat. She will allow time for questions and will have a variety of handouts and simple recipes available.
Watson, a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator, has a masters degree in nutritional sciences. An employee of Stephens Memorial Hospital for 22 years, she serves as director of food and nutrition services as well as dietitian for the hospital’s diabetes education program.
Watson’s experience includes public health, long-term care and college professor. In 2010, the Maine Dietetic Association honored her as the Outstanding Dietitian of the Year.
