MEXICO — By the end of April, Town Manager John Madigan will know whether plans for the next phase of major road repairs will happen this summer.

He submitted the application for a $500,000 federal Community Development Block Grant that, if approved, will be part of a $1.2 million road, water, sewer and storm drain project for Alder and South Main streets.

The remaining $700,000 would come from a voter-approved bond designated for road work on several municipal streets.

“We’ve spent three years on this,” he said.

If the CDBG funds don’t come through, which are targeted for costs associated with the sewer and water work, then the road project also will not go ahead.

Madigan said selectmen also accepted the resignation of Mexico Police Department officer Zachary Bisson. He left the department to take a similar position with the Mechanic Falls Police Department.

Mexico is now looking for a fifth officer.
