FARMINGTON — Voters at Monday night’s annual town meeting approved a municipal budget of $4,650,934, the amount recommended by selectmen.

During the three-hour meeting, more than 100 voters followed the selectmen’s recommendation to set aside $25,000 a year for three years to fund a garage for the Police Department rather than approving the whole $75,000 amount as requested.

The department will have to look at options next year, Deputy Chief Shane Cote said Tuesday.

The garage is on hold.

Material estimates ranged near the $50,000 amount, especially with a Foster Technology class involved with labor on the garage. They may not be available and costs may change by next year or three years from now, he said.

Voters also approved two articles pertaining to additions to the town ordinance. The town gained the ability to regulate the permitting of commercial and residential wind energy systems and to limit medical marijuana dispensaries to districts where retail business is allowed.

An article asking the town to oversee a Community Development Block Grant for a proposed elderly housing complex, Brookside Village, off the Fairbanks Road was approved.

Abutting neighbor Brad Smith encouraged residents to participate in the Planning Board’s April discussion on the project as a small pond on the property sits on an aquifer feeding in to the town’s water wells.
