Tuberculosis Day

LEWISTON — Lewiston Public Library is partnering with the New Mainers Public Health Initiative and Maine CDC to host this year’s World Tuberculosis Day event, planned for 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, in Callahan Hall at the library.

Activities will include the debut of the TB video filmed by Hibo Omer of the New Mainers Public Health Initiative and Dr. Stephen Sears, state epidemiologist, Maine CDC, and discussion of TB in Maine and common myths.

There will be a community dialogue about TB in Lewiston-Auburn and Maine.

Workshop on film

BRUNSWICK — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free workshop for anyone interested in learning more a film based on the book by ecologist and cancer survivor Sandra Steingraber.

‘Living Downstream: Film and Discussion’ will take place from 5:39 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 26, at Parkview Adventist Medical Center, 329 Maine St.

Emma Halas-O’Conor, Grassroots Organizer at the Environmental Health Strategy Center, will  lead a brief discussion on initiatives happening in Maine to reduce harm from toxic chemicals.

League is moving

AUBURN — Marine Corps League Detachment 810 is moving its meetings to a new location. Effective Thursday, March 29, Detachment 810 will hold its meetings at the American Legion Post 31, 426 Washington St.

Detachment 810 holds its meetings the last Thursday of the month. All Marines and FMF-Corpsman are invited. All are welcome to meetings to see what the league is about.

Installation of new officers will be held on Thursday.

Public speaking

AUBURN — The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College will offer “Outstanding Public Speaking and Presentation Skills” from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays, April 2 through April 16. The cost of $149 includes materials.

The noncredit course is open to anyone trying to develop a comfort level with presenting and speaking in front of a group. Registration is open and ongoing, however space is limited.

Positive psychology

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free workshop for anyone interested in learning about positive psychology.

“Positive Psychology: Fostering Strength and Emotional Health” will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, at CMMC, 12 High Street, conference room A.

Speaker and author Janet Edmunson will discuss research in positive psychology that demonstrates people can adopt a thinking style that fosters strength, creativity and resilience.
