Announcement was made Saturday that the Auburn Paper Box Co. had bought the J.P. Hutchinson lot on Minot avenue, next beyond the Revelation shoe factory, and that a box factory would be erected thereon the coming year. Rumors for other factory enlargements are rife in Auburn, whose industrial prospect is as bright as that of the most prosperous city in the country.
50 years ago, 1962
Lewiston Public Works Director George J. Maher today asked Lewiston residents to cooperate in the clean-up of sand on city walks to save a considerable amount of tax money. Maher suggested that residents could sweep the sand from walks in front of residents and leave it at the side of streets. He pointed out that the department pays laborers up to $1.50 per hour to sweep the walks.

An Auburn school official told the Maine Legislature Transportation Committee Wednesday his department has had high compliance from elementary students in the use of seat belts on two school buses equipped with the devices. Business Manager Jude Cyr testified in favor of a bill which asks for a $2,000 appropriation for a study of the feasibility of installing seat belts in school buses.
