100 years ago, 1912
Nothing “just as good” was served at the ninth barnquet held by the Lewiston and Auburn Grocers’ Association Thursday evening. No substitutes or adulterated food stuffs were brought before the gocers. You cannot fool them. No one knows what good food is better than the grocers. Greeting members in the parlor of the Odd Fellows Hall, Pleasant Street, Auburn, was the group’s president, Albert M. Penley, a charter member of the association which was formed in 1883.

50 years ago, 1962
The City of Auburn has received notice through its city clerk of a public hearing to be held in Lancaster, N.H., in which the Canadian National railway is seeking to end passenger train service on two runs between Portland and the Maine-New Hampshire line. Involved is the Danville Jct. station in Auburn where passengers board trains in order to connect with the trains in question.
 
25 years ago, 1987
L.L. Bean, one of the world’s most famous manufacturer of sporting goods, will scout locations in Lewiston-Auburn this week for a telephone order center that will create at least 100 full-time jobs when it opens in spring 1988. The company announced Tuesday that the Twin Cities were chosen for the 50,000-square-foot facility over three other potential locations. It was confirmed that Lewiston officials have worked with owners of Peck’s to make the vacant building an attractive location for the telemarketing center.
