LEWISTON — A Tax Day rally sponsored by Maine Taxpayers United will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Franco-Heritage Center.

The rally is being held on the traditional day that is the deadline for federal income tax returns, and has become an occasion to remind all that Maine taxpayers carry among the heaviest tax burdens in the country, said Jack Wibby of Maine Taxpayers United.

The program will include comments by Gov. Paul LePage. Others scheduled to speak include Carol Weston, the executive director of Americans for Prosperity Maine; Jonathan Williams of the American Legislative Exchange Council and author of the book, “Rich States, Poor States”; and Maine grassroots leader and tax activist Mary Adams.

Many organizations will be present including the Maine Tea Party/Refounders and Patriots, the Maine Constitutionalists and the York County Constitutionalists, Wibby said.

Several candidates for public office also will be available to meet constituents, Wibby said.

The public is invited. Admission is free and refreshments will be available. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. The Franco Center is at 46 Cedar St.
