LEWISTON — The annual Walk MS will take place in several communities in Androscoggin County on Saturday, April 28. For information about a local walk, go to: www.nationalmssociety.org.
The National MS Society assists more than 3,000 people living in Maine with this disease of the central nervous system. Through a new initiative called the NOW (No Opportunity Wasted) campaign, a nationwide goal of $250 million has been set to fund research to stop the progression of MS, restore function that’s been lost and end multiple sclerosis forever.
In Maine, nearly one in 400 residents has MS, a per-capita rate that is about 70 percent higher than the nation as a whole.
Last year, the Greater New England Chapter spent $8 million on MS education, support, advocacy, services and research to benefit more than 19,000 individuals and families affected by MS.
