FARMINGTON — Charles H. Pottle, 80, of Farmington, passed away Saturday, May 5, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.
He was born in West Gardiner, Nov. 8, 1931, the son of Ralph A. and Georgia V. (Adams) Pottle. He was educated in the schools of Gardiner. He married Helen Blouin Jan. 3, 1953.
Charlie was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Army. After the war, he worked for the First National Store chain in Augusta transferring to Farmington and working for more than 19 years. He then worked for Country Kitchen as a route salesman for more than 21 years, retiring in 1990.
Charlie was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church serving as a eucaristic minister and in the Knights of Columbus as a member and past Grand Knight. He was also a member of the Farmington Lions Club and the American Legion Roderick Crosby Post of Farmington. He coached seventh and eighth-grade Pony League Football and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen; four sons, Stephen Pottle and his wife, Peggy, of Wilton, Jeffry Pottle and his wife, Kristine, of New Sharon, Gregory Pottle and his wife, Janet, of Jay and David Pottle and his fiance, Barbara, of Farmington; his daughter, Gail Wheelock and companion, Victor, of Orlando, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Ben, Emily, Adam, Andrew, Christie, Mike, Brianna, Haley, Alejandro and Alessandra; seven great-granchildren; his sister, Marylyn Dunn of West Gardiner; and his brother, Clifford of Fairfield.
He was predeceased by his sister, Marjorie McCausland.
