RUMFORD — Zak Radcliffe and Izaak Mills ripped back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the sixth to help plate the fourth run of the game as Mountain Valley edged Wiscasset 4-3 in MVC baseball.
After Radcliffe’s two double, Mills followed with his second hit of the game, scoring Radcliffe. Mills also earned the victory on the mound. Dylan Akers had a single and double for the Falcons (5-3). Jason Weatherbee had a pair of singles and took the loss for Wiscasset (5-4).
Spruce Mountain 29, Boothbay 3
BOOTHBAY — Ben Keene ripped a pair of home runs, driving in seven runs to help lead an 18-hit attack, as Spruce Mountain blasted Boothbay 29-3 in baseball action.
The senior drove in all seven runs in the first two innings, adding a double in the victory. After a seven-run first inning, the Phoenix pushed 17 runs across in the second. Scott Hall had six singles for Spruce Mountain (5-5). Aar0n Lisherness and Bill Calven each had three hits apiece. Pat Ryan and Eli Capen contributed with a pair of hits each.
Gavin Jones earned his second victory of the season on the mound for Spruce Mountain.
Cony 1, Mt. Blue 0
AUGUSTA — Cony scored the game’s lone run in the fifth inning on a bases-loaded walk to slip past Mt. Blue 1-0 in a KVAC baseball tilt.
Cony’s Ryan Edwards went the distance, allowing just three hits while striking out six. Blake Hart matched Edwards until the fifth when his wildness caught up with him. Hart finished with four walks, scattering only two hits in the defeat.
Charlie Martin had a pair of singles for the Cougars (3-6).
Winthrop 10, Mt. Abram 3
WINTHROP — Senior Tyler Reeve fanned 14 batters and walked none in a complete game victory as Winthrop displaced Mt. Abram 10-3 in MVC baseball action Friday.
The Ramblers (5-2) scored four runs in each of the first and fifth innings. Ben Allen had a pair of RBIs in the first inning. And Tyler Foster chipped in with one as well.
Winthrop had a string of six singles only broken up by a walk in their four-run fifth inning. Drew Stratton went 3-for-3.
Center fielder Josh White paced the Roadrunners (2-6) with a pair of singles.
Madison 10, Monmouth 5
MONMOUTH — Catcher Garrett Emery hit a bases-clearing double in the seventh inning to put the game away as Madison notched a 10-5 victory over Monmouth in MVC baseball action Friday.
The Bulldogs (5-4) received fine pitching from Rhett McKenney, who now goes to 2-0 on the season.
Sophomore pitcher Kyle Fletcher worked the mound for the Mustangs (1-7) and had three hits on offense to his credit. Fletcher also recorded a double,
Gray-New Gloucester 6, Traip 2
GRAY — The starting pitcher Pat Robinson plated the eventual game-winning run in the first inning as Gray-New Gloucester posted a 6-2 victory over Traip in WMC baseball action Friday.
Aaron Boulos came on in relief in the fourth inning and took control, giving up just one hit and one walk while striking out five for the Patriots (6-3). Adam Healy closed out the game with two strikeouts.
The Rangers (3-5) were held scoreless after a two-run first inning.
Lewiston 5, Brewer 4
BANGOR — Corbin Hyde escaped jams in the sixth and seventh to preserve a 5-4 victory for Lewiston over Brewer in a KVAC tilt played at Husson University on Friday.
Hyde, working in relief of winning pitcher Luke Cote, was protecting a two-run lead when he loaded the bases with one out in the sixth and got Yuhi Sasaki to ground into a 6-4-3 double play.
The Witches (3-5) pulled within a run in the seventh and had the tying run at third with one out, but Hyde closed the door with a strikeout and a pop out to second.
Matt Bowen led the Blue Devils (7-3) with two hits, including a two-run single in the first. Hyde, Cote and Alex Small also had two hits apiece. Tony Bissell led all batters with three hits for Brewer.
