PARIS — An Oxford Hills Comprehensive High school student has built a wheelchair-accessible gardening table at the Maine Veterans Home on High Street.
“At first I wasn’t too sure how I would do it,” Josh Roberts said, but eventually he came up with “a pretty good” blueprint.
It’s his senior project he’s been working on since September.
Roberts was in John Bell’s engineering and architectural design class for two years and is in his green technology class this year, and it was Bell who suggested the garden table.
“I took him up on it. I trust Mr. Bell,” Roberts said.
Before he donated the table to the Maine Veterans Home he borrowed a wheelchair from the high school office to make sure it would work correctly. It did.
Last week Roberts presented the table to the facility so veterans in wheelchairs can try their hand at gardening.
