LEWISTON — Two men were taken to the hospital Friday morning, one with serious injuries, after a fistfight on Main Street.

Sgt. Michael Whalen said a call came in at 8:20 a.m. reporting the fight near the intersection of Main and Whipple streets.

“One (man) was laying on the ground, the other took off running,” he said.

Police apprehended the man who tried to run off and took him to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. The man found on the ground with what appeared to be serious injuries was taken to Central Maine Medical Center, Whalen said.

No weapons were believed to be involved in the fight. Police could be seen afterward cordoning off a section of sidewalk and laying evidence numbers on the ground.

More details will be posted as they become known.
