LEWISTON — An Internet survey is one way local marketing officials are hoping to evaluate the aging “L/A: It’s Happening Here” campaign.

The Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce’s Regional Image Committee has posted the survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/992KVK8 in part of an effort to gauge whether the campaign still works or needs to be retired.

“Should we focus on keeping it as is, or do we need to look at something new, more progressive?” Calvin Rinck, marketing director for the Lewiston Auburn Economic Growth Council, asked. “We’re trying to get as many people involved in the community as we can right now.”

Rinck said the survey has been taken more than 550 times so far. It’s scheduled to remain online until the June 14 Business to Business Trade show.

After that, members of the Regional Image Committee will begin reviewing survey results and begin working on an updated campaign.

The “It’s Happening Here” campaign debuted in 2003, part of an effort to spread the word around Maine about events and programs in the Twin Cities and buff Lewiston-Auburn’s image at home and around the state.

“We know that it’s leveraged well over a $1 million worth of publicity over it’s lifespan,” Rinck said. “So what do we need to do to make it better and to promote L-A at the next level.”
