AUBURN — Dillingham and Son jumped out to a 5-0 lead and proceeded to score in every inning but the third, racing to a 18-1 win over Enefco in Auburn Suburban Little League minor division baseball.

Dillingham got big offensive performances from George Romano, who had three hits, including two doubles, and Noah Harkins, who went 3-for-3 and smacked two doubles of his own. For Enefco, Finnegan Thistle went 2-for-2 with two singles.

The victors turned in some nifty defensive plays to hold Enefco to one run. In the fourth, Dillingham’s Eli Fournier made a nice play to start a key double play to squelch an Enefco threat.

In the major division, Auburn Fire Fighters defeated East Auburn by the score of 11-10 in dramatic fashion. AFF’s Christian Beliveau stole home in the bottom of the sixth for the winning run.

East Auburn attacked quickly and lead 6-1 after its first two frames. The Firefighters struck back and evened the score with a timely, bases-loaded single by Dan Milks, followed by a huge double by Brock Newman.

The pitching quarter of Jahvon Coney, Donnie Peterson, Giles Paradie and Ben Cassidy kept East Auburn in the game. Beliveau tossed the first three for the Firemen and Caleb Yarnevich closed out the final three.

In the bottom of the sixth, with his team behind two runs, Tyler Libby singled and swiped his way around the bases to score, setting up Beliveau’s heroics.

New Gloucester

New Gloucester Little League will host a ceremonial groundbreaking to celebrate the successful approval and permitting of its 25-acre baseball and softball field construction project.

The ceremony will serve as the fundraising kickoff. The goal is to raise $2.6 million dollars to renovate an existing field and build three new fields, as well as grandstands and additional amenities. Once completed, the complex will have two baseball fields and two softball fields — supporting almost 400 players in New Gloucester and neighboring Gray.

The land was received through a generous gift from Fortin Construction, and realtor Tim Nolan. The land was part of the open space connected to the Briarwood subdivision and has been home to New Gloucester Little League’s primary field for more than 15 years.

Plans for the fields, still in design, call for each of the four fields to be patterned after an historic Major League ballpark.

“The idea is to give the kids an interesting and unique place to play,” said Kevin Sullivan, New Gloucester Little League board member and project coordinator. “We also hope to teach them about the history of the game.”

The ceremony will take place following the completion of the Town Line Classic baseball game between the New Gloucester Little League Champion and the Gray Little League Champion, and prior to the New Gloucester Minor League Championship game. This is scheduled for Saturday, June 16 at Penney Road Field at 1:30 p.m.
