MEXICO — An ATV driver remained in critical condition Thursday night at a Lewiston hospital with injuries suffered when his machine flipped over earlier this week.
Lt. Roy Hodsdon said William Murphy, 65, accelerated his Polaris 500cc four-wheeler at the intersection of Pearl and Main streets and it came off the ground and flipped over Monday morning.
Murphy struck his head and was flown to Central Maine Medical Center, where he remained Thursday night in critical condition, a nursing supervisor said.
Murphy’s address was not available.
Med-Care Ambulance Service and the Mexico Fire Department also responded to the call.
Hodsdon said the ATV had about $1,300 damage to the foot protector and handlebars.
Local police also investigated an accident at the Big Apple convenience store on River Road on Saturday. A Toyota pickup driven by Zachary Metivier, 28, of Livermore Falls apparently went out of control and hit an ice machine, according to police. The truck was not damaged and Metivier was not hurt, but the ice machine had more than $3,000 damage.
Metivier was arrested on a charge of operating under the influence, second offense, and released from the Police Department on $1,200 unsecured bail, according to police. He is scheduled to appear in 11th District Court in Rumford on Sept. 4.
