I encourage the citizens of Paris to support the proposal to merge the police departments of Paris and Norway for a one-year trial period.
A recent presentation by Chief David Verrier and Chief Robert Federico, in support of the merger, explained potential cost savings, as well as the need to provide a better, more efficient service to the citizens of both towns. That included many officers concerned with their own safety during night-time hours, when they are often the only officer on duty.
I believe that it needs to be a top priority to protect those who serve to protect us.
It is my wish for the selectmen of both towns to work together and put together a proposal that satisfies Paris and Norway officials and send the issue to the citizens for a vote.
Cost savings, a more efficient police operation, and addressing the safety concerns of the officers are great benefits and, in my opinion, an obligation for the towns to consider.
I hope others will stand with me in supporting the merger of the Paris and Norway police departments.
Ryan Lorrain, selectman, Paris
