Passing rain showers in the forecast for July 4 may cause some of the planned fireworks displays in the area to cancel.
Event officials offered the following guidelines. (The Sun Journal will also have updated information on its website as it becomes available, at sunjournal.com.)
Lewiston-Auburn Liberty Festival: Officials will make a decision by noon whether or not to continue as planned. If forced to cancel, the entire celebration will be moved to Thursday, July 5, and will start later in the evening, around 6 p.m. An updated schedule of the entertainment lineup and times will be provided on the festival’s website in case of a change: www.libertyfestival.org.
Carrabassett Valley: The town has no rain plan. The town office will be closed tomorrow, and officials said it’s safe to say that if rain is falling at 9 p.m., the fireworks will not be going off.
Oxford Plains Speedway: If rain causes a cancellation, the festivities will be delayed until Thursday, July 5. For more information, check out www.oxfordplains.com.
Rumford: A rain date has been set for July 5. Officials will decide by 6 p.m. whether to go forward with the fireworks display. If the event is delayed, an announcement will be sent to the newspaper, local television and radio stations.
Turner: A little rain won’t be stopping this town’s Independence Day celebration. Selectmen Ralph Caldwell said the fireworks will happen “rain or shine.”
