Poland Spring is the Mecca of automobile parties from all over the country these hot days. W. W. Gano, a guest at the Poland Spring House, drove through from Denver, Colo. Another, G.K. Clark of New York, has an Italian machine in which he has driven all over Europe in the last two years, and W. H. Barnard of New York has a Delahaye of French manufacture at the garage, which weighs 6,600 pounds. Mr. and Mrs. S.M. Inwan of Atlanta, Ga., drove through to Poland last week, and Mr. and Mrs, Schweden of Los Angeles arrived recently having come all the way in their car.
50 years ago, 1962
A recent change of plans by the state Highway Department will save Lewiston a considerable amount of money in that the city will not have to lower several thousand feet of water line coming from Lake Auburn. The announcement was made last night by Public Works Director George J. Maher, who read a letter from a utility engineer for the state department. The state has decided to change its street grades in the proposed road job thereby allowing Lewiston to keep its water line intact.

At the third annual Festival by the Lake, following selections by the Auburn Community Band, the Portland Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Toshiyuki Shimada, will present a “Gershwin Salute.” Shimada, recently named music director and conductor of the orchestra, will be making his premier appearance in the Lewiston-Auburn Area. The festival is schedule for Saturday, June 25, on the shores of Lake Auburn at Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute.
