LEWISTON — Mary Irene Ainaire, 89, a resident of Clover Assisted Living Center in Auburn, passed away Monday, July 2, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Mechanic Falls, July 12, 1922, the daughter of Ralph and Irene Holt of Mechanic Falls. Mary graduated from Mechanic Falls High School in 1940, and Acme Business School in Lewiston in 1942, as a secretary.
In 1942, she married Romeo William “Bill” Ainaire of Sabattus. Mary worked most of her life at Lewiston Woolen Mill. Leaving there, she worked for Arrow Hart, which was located in Lewiston, for a few years. She then worked at Central Maine General Hospital, until her retirement.
Mary loved having visits from children, grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to all who needed a hug or smile. She will be greatly missed by those whose lives she has touched.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald and his wife, Janet, of Conover, N.C., and Raymond and his wife, Nicole, of Perkins Ridge Road, Auburn; three grandchildren, Beth Verrill of New Gloucester, Dave Ainaire of Mechanic Falls and Jason Ainaire of Greene.
Mary was a loving grandmother and left eight-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She also had many stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild. Ruthie (Ruth) Thibodeau, a niece, was especially dedicated to Mary with a lifetime commitment of daily visits and she is very highly thought of by Mary’s sons.
Mary was predeceased by one brother, Fred Holt of Mechanic Falls; and three sisters, Vera Morse of Lisbon Falls, Roberta Lavertu Green of Mechanic Falls and Ruth Caron of Lewiston.
